Work autonomy in the gig economy

Leuven.png

The growth of the “gig” or “sharing” economy, which includes work through online digital platforms and mobile applications, poses numerous challenges to labour protection and the traditional employment law.

This multidisciplinary project is led by Professor Valerio De Stefano of the KU Leuven, and financed by the Odysseus grant. It aims to research, among others, the extent of the work control – and conversely the lack of autonomy – that workers in the “gig” economy may experience.

Within this project, I am currently in the process of developing questionnaires for the qualitative and quantitative surveys of workers in the “gig” economy and advising on the scope and the methods of the surveys. I will also be supervising the field-work in the second half of 2019.
